But...when the Zombie Apocalypse comes...who knows...I just may be living the words!
SHE'S 43!
Jennifer Aniston plays a stripper in the summer flick "We're The Millers". She looks great. I hate her! Movie looks good, too! My favorite line in the trailer..."You got me movin' enough weed to kill Willie Nelson, man!"
Looking Forward To Memorial Day Weekend:
I bought a new hat...and I want to wear it while we're crabbing!
Baseball Parents Are Like A Box Of Chocolates...
You're always going to find a couple of nuts! Last night I hear a parent yell at a kid..."Quit whining (insert his number here)!" after the kid got called out and was asking the ump why it wasn't interference. REALLY? I get yelling at the umps...I've yelled at a few...and had a weird sense of enjoyment watching some coaches go crazy on umps...but be nice to the kids...they're just kids!
Gotta Love It...
Yup...Even In Our "Go Green" World...There Are Still Some Things That Require Paper!
And I need not say more...just watch!
What A Cutie!
4 year old Kai Langer does a pretty good impression of Bruno Mars on Ellen! Love the expressions with the hands...especially for the "bullet on the brain"!
Celebrities As "Normal" People?
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie! My sister had a dress like that! Hey...think I'd admit to having a dress like that?! And that's their buddy...Johnny Depp! These pics from Planet Hiltron...a cleverly photoshopped collection of images by New York City-based artist and writer Danny Evans that give us a glimpse at what Hollywood celebrities would look like as ordinary people. A truly inspiring story of brotherly love. Conner and Cayden Long...Sports Illustrated Kids 2012 SportsKids of The Year!
The Beyonce Sandwich:
You could make one before her show in Charlotte in July. If you can "handle" it! I'm not sure I could...bacon, bleu cheese, hot sauce, fried chicken and jelly with a ring on top...sounds kinda blucky!
Too Funny!
This has everyone in the office laughing hysterically!
Another Reason To Love Steven Tyler...
He obviously is one wild ball of fun...after all...you've got to know how to have fun to do something like this...
Yup...that's Steven Tyler...aka Pepper LaBeija...auditioning for American Idol! Steven blew kisses to the camera and reduced Keith Urban to hysterical laughter...but that's not what made Keith fall out of his chair! It was Zoanette Johnson's over the top rendition of the National Anthem that sent Keith crashing to the floor! Check it out...
Inspiring Young Men!
Three Tennessee Homecoming King nominees made a unanimous and inspiring decision recently to...no matter who was voted King...give the Homecoming King Crown to a fellow student with a genetic condition. What an amazing act of kindness from three young men. In a world filled with bad news...this news is so inspiring. I hope my son grows up to be just like them! Click the pic to get the whole story...it will make you want to commit a random act of kindness today!
REALLY!
"On January 28, through popular British e-tailer ASOS, Wrangler will release a special line called "Spa Denim" with built-in moisturizing properties and one pair with an anti-cellulite treatment."
OH COME ON!! I'd coat the inside of my cheap jeans with lotion before I spent $136 on a pair of jeans!!

This Is One Smart Mom!
Personally...I don't think she's mean...I think she's pretty smart...and some day...maybe her son will thank her! I'm keeping this trick up my sleeve in case I ever need it for my kid!
The meanest mother in Wyoming just may save her son's life.
A mom who caught her 16-year-old son drunk driving is now selling her son's car as punishment. In a classified ad for the car in her local newspaper, she calls herself the "meanest mother in Wyoming."
Short, clipped sentences in the classified ad for the 1993 Ford Ranger hint at the unnamed mom's distress. "VERY angry mother," the ad in the Northern Wyoming News reads. "Son forgot to use his brain and got caught drunk driving."
She's asking $3,500 or best offer for the vehicle, and asks interested parties to call the "meanest mother in Wyoming." AOL Autos reached out to her at the number listed seeking comment, but her mailbox is full.
The mom has substantial reason to be worried. Although it's on the decline, underage drinking is still lethal to approximately 5,000 people each year, according to Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
"So it's understandable that a mother would be upset with her child for drinking underage and then choosing to get behind the wheel," MADD national president Jan Withers said.
Since 2006, there has been a 27 percent decrease in U.S. drunk-driving fatalities. The number of deaths caused by drunk drivers fell to 9,878 in 2011, the first time the number has fallen below 10,000 since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began keeping data in 1982.
That marked a 2.5 percent decline from 2010, which outpaced the overall 1.9 percent drop in traffic fatalities. That's reason for optimism, says MADD. But there's also concern. If anything, a recent study shows mixed progress in efforts to curb underage drinking.
Fewer than 30 percent of eighth graders report drinking in a report released last month by Monitoring The Future, which conducts extensive surveys of teens related to drug and alcohol use. It was the lowest number since the survey began in 1991.
On the other hand, drinking was on the rise among high school seniors. Fifty-four percent of 12th graders report being drunk in the past month, and 25 percent say they have engaged in binge drinking within the past two weeks.
"Drunk driving is one of the many dangers associated with underage drinking," Withers said. "As parents, we have more influence than we think when it comes to our kids' decisions about alcohol."
As for the Wyoming mother who is selling her son's Ford Ranger, Withers said MADD encourages parents to have frequent, ongoing conversations with their children about alcohol, and to "set clear expectations and consequences ... enforcing those consequences when necessary."
Too Cute!
Emerson's not sure if he's scared or amused when Mom blows her nose!
Kudos To LEGO!
Just to set this up...I'll tell why I won't ever shop at an unnamed store again:
Right before Christmas I purchased a pair of 501 Levi's and a pair of athletic pants for my husband and son for Christmas. I spent $58. I used a $5 off any purchase of $50 or more coupon from the coupon book I had bought from my son's school for a fundraiser. Of course...I bought the wrong kind of Levi's...so after Christmas we went back to exchange them for 505's. The 505's were $5 cheaper than the 501's. When they refunded my money they gave me $1.10. When I asked why I only got $1.10 since they were $5 cheaper...they said they took $3.90 from my coupon. When I asked why...since I had still spent over $50...they said "Yeah...well that's just our policy." I e-mailed the company. They e-mailed back and said "Sorry". I e-mailed again. They e-mailed back and said unless they saw the reciept...they couldn't do anything. I e-mailed again and said the store had seen my receipt...and they shouldn't have dinged me. They never e-mailed me again. I'll never shop at that store again. Not over $3.90...but over the principal.
This story makes me actually want to go out and buy LEGO's...even though my son is "too old for them"! And it's just because of how they do business!
You probably pass their Christmas Lights display every year...right on 17 between Vanceboro and New Bern in Ernul. But, did you know that they light up a big bonfire and a huge fireworks show on Christmas Eve! This year was spectacular! Make plans to join us in 2013!
TSO Road Trip!
Went to check out Trans-Siberian Orchestra at PNC Arena...what an incredible show! Check out more pics on my page or click on V-Pics!
This Is Crazy Cool!
I wish I could transform my yard like this for Halloween...
And this...
Ayden & Grifton Middle School Band Members Play With Ayden-Grifton High School Marching Band!
I went to my first high school football game since...well...probably high school! Dakota and several other middle school band members played with the high school marching band during the game. They didn't let them march...which would have been a hoot!
Playing With The Diamondbacks In Grainger Stadium!
Dakota had the honor of playing with Coach Craig and The Diamondbacks in Grainger Stadium this fall! It was awesome sitting in the stadium and watching the boys play ball where the pros played!
It's Time To Surf Fish!
It's the perfect time of year to hit our beautiful beaches and do some surf fishing! We went to Salter Path last weekend and hit the beach about 9am. We were on the hunt for this......caught a couple nice ones...that's a Pompano, by the way! We also caught a bunch of blues...our neighbor Ms. Sara loves them...a blowfish, a spanish mac, a trout, spot and something else my husband identified...but I don't remember what the heck it was! A guy just down the beach from us landed a 5 foot 8 inch shark!
Get out with the family and enjoy the beach...the crowds are gone and the fish are bitin'! Lots of our local stores can help you get everything you need to bring home dinner!
A Little Shopping Tip
I've been saving some big bucks at the pump recently thanks to Lowe's Foods Bonus Fuel Rewards. They always give you 5 cents off a gallon for every $100 you spend...but they often have extra special deals that save you even more when you buy a certain amount of certain products. Check out their weekly flier at lowesfoods.com. Most of the time you can find money saving coupons for the items at coupons.com and pillsbury.com Lowe's doubles coupons every day up to 99 cents. Put the coupons with the deals and score at the pump! A couple weeks ago...I bought 4 cartons of ice cream...buy one get one free...costs me 11.98 for 4 cartons...and I saved 30 cents a gallon on gas at Wilco Hess. I'm planning on scoring big this week!
Labor Day Weekend
Went to my first ECU Football Game with my son in like...6 years! OMG...it was so HOT! I spent about 30 bucks on water...and half of it went over my head, down my back and right down the front of my shirt! I was so happy when the peeps we were with finally said..."Let's GO!"!! Of course, the Pirates were beatin' up App bad. Go Pirates!
Sunday...we hit the beach and went shrimpin'! It was hot...but we could jump in the water and cool off! Dakota and his buddy Owen helped my hubby forage for our dinner!
Ripley's Aquarium In Myrtle Beach
Dinos......a "walk through" aquarium......icky snakes (don't want to swim in these waters!)......jellyfish (that we didn't get stung by!)......and mermaids...
Saw This In Myrtle Beach..."YOU THINK?!!"...
Wet 'N Wild!
My son is officially becomes a teenager this weekend...wish me luck. We celebrated his birthday last week at Wet 'N Wild. My girlfriend and I took our sons and 4 other teenage boys. It was a crazy day...and here's the crazy crew...
Yup...I took 6 hormonally charged teenagers to Wet 'N Wild. From one of the boys..."Guys...this is going to be a good day for girls in bikinis!"
I wish I wasn't scared of heights!
Because I really want to do this... I jumped out of a plane 5 times...but I just don't know if I could zipline...no matter how much I want to! However...there are 542 other things I could do in North Carolina! Project 543 tells the story of unique spots across North Carolina. Why 543? Because that's the number of miles from Manteo, on the coast, to Murphy, in the mountains, and is traditionally considered to be the width of our state. If I ever have time...I might try to get through the whole list! Check it out...just click here!
Myrtle Beach for vacation last week.
We planned our summer vacation around The Summer Nationals Baseball Tournament. Here's my favorite picture from the tournament...
Can I just say...without hurting anyone's feelings...that North Carolina beaches beat Myrtle Beach beaches?!!
I admit...I've been having one of these weeks...
Ever have such thoughts?
This was the BEST idea!
We had some friends over for a feast Saturday...and one of the Mom's brought a long roll of plastic sheeting. We rolled it out in the backyard...coated it with bubble bath...hosed it down with water and the kids had the biggest Slip 'N Slide EVER! It was awesome fun!
Picked blueberries this weekend, too. Renston Garden Market...3.5 miles south of Winterville on 903. They're big, fat, juicy and delicious! Plus they have home-grown sweet corn...we threw it on the grill...yummy...red potatoes...squash and more. Click here to visit them on-line. Andy McLawhorn is a pretty amazing potter, too. Ask to see some of his work!
What a PACKED Weekend!
First weekend in June we had baseball...and finally hit the water to do some tubing!
Congratulations Piggly Wiggly on taking First Place in the Spring Season of AFG Major Leagues!
And then they took First Place in the Post Season Tournament!! Whoo Hooo!!! Go Pig!
Since they swept the tournament...we had Sunday free! So...we hit Washington Park and launched the boat with friends, the tube and chicken legs for crabbing!
We rode down the river...about 30 miles...in the wind...tubing! We stopped at a pond tucked away in the river to do some crabbing. I love jumping in the river...but I would never jump in the water of this pond. Kinda mucky and gross! 5 minutes after we stopped...I step up to the bank of the pond to pull up a crab string...and the bank collapses under me and I fall into the disgusting water! Plus...it seemed I wasn't going to get out! I flipped around and tried to grab the bank and it just kept crumbling in my hands! I was FREAKING OUT! My son's friend finally came out of his stupor of seeing me fall and stuck his hand out to help pull me up. I came up wet to my neck and bleeding like crazy. I sliced the bottom of my foot up on something when I fell in...and then sliced my knee up when I flipped around trying to get out! "I'm OK...I'm OK!" Couldn't let a little blood end a beautiful day!
We crabbed there for a bit...then moved on to another spot. Everyone was having fun...it was gorgeous.
Then we started back to Washington Park...heading into the wind! It was a VERY rough ride. I was in the back of the boat...happened to glance over and noticed the level of gas. I asked my husband, "Hey...do you think we have enough gas to get back?" He said, "We should be OK." I looked at my friend and said "Famous last words...we should be OK!"
20 minutes later...we were dead in the water! Eight miles from Washington Park...in the middle of the river...not a boat in sight!
Before anyone could start panicking...a boat came roaring over the horizon and I had everyone on their feet waving it down! The kind boaters zoomed over to us and asked what the problem was. "We're out of gas...if you could tow us to Chocowinity Bay...we may be able to get gas." They asked where we were going...Washington Park..."We're going there, too. We'll just tow you there." WHOO HOO!
Then they asked, "Do you have a rope?" And that's when Owen jumped up hollering "YES!" and tried to flip open the hatch THAT I WAS STANDING ON! I tried to move...my feet got twisted around...and WHOMP...THERE I WENT! Over the side of the boat into the river! I was soaked...it was 6pm...windy and getting cool!
But...we were getting towed!
15 minutes into getting towed...I was freezing...and losing patience when I realized we were going 4.2 miles an hour and had 8 miles to go!
After numerous hysterical laughing fits from everyone on the boat and 99 bottles of beer on the wall two times...we made it to the dock. It was 8:15pm. I was still wet!
I'm buying another gas can to stow on the boat. Filled with gas!
I want to do this!
Doesn't that look FUN!
Memorial Day Weekend:
Baseball...boating...and crabs!! Check out the crabs we caught with chicken legs on a string!
Oh...and Dakota hit ANOTHER home run in travel ball! Two runs in...Riptide won the tournament in Havelock on Saturday! Go Riptide! Those boys are gettin' good!
Monday...we cleaned crabs! And mowed the lawn between the rain. Wish someone would turn off the spigot!
What a Mother's Day Weekend!
A couple of weeks ago...my son hit his first home run in travel ball. Friday night...before he hit another home run...and upped the show because it was a GRAND SLAM! I don't think anyone could have been grinning any bigger when he ran around the bases! That was an awesome Mother's Day Gift! Though...a little hint, kid...a card still would have been nice!
Saturday was a beautiful day in ENC and we found the honey hole for crabs! We had a crab feast! Check 'em out...
Yummy!
Simple crab dip that we love and is always a hit at backyard BBQ's...take about a half pound of fresh crab...mix in with one package of Philly Cream Cheese (softened is easier to mix)...add some salt, pepper...we like a little Lawry's. Mold into a "cheese ball" like shape and chill. Cover with cocktail sauce and serve with your favorite crackers. We make ours with ketchup and horseradish...you can add as much as you like depending on how much heat you like!
And my husband makes the bomb Crab Stuffed Flounder. Too bad he couldn't catch any flounder this weekend!
I'm not picking on Faith Hill!
I think she's a beautiful woman...and she's got spunk...remember her dressing down that woman who grabbed her hubby's bum at a concert? When I saw this picture I thought "Thank you, Faith, for making me feel OK about the way I look when I'm going au natural on lazy weekends!"
Skinny Jeans or Elephant Pants!
My girlfriend was telling me that her boyfriend just bought a pair of "skinny jeans". He's already skinny...the jeans make him look even skinnier...according to my girlfriend! She also mentioned something about wearing skinny jeans herself..."back in 1984"! All I could say was "Well...at least Elephant Pants aren't back in style!" Man...Elephant Pants...anyone remember those? I had a pair that looked almost exactly like these...
Hate to admit it...but it's true!
Why do people think it's OK to be ugly and rude?
I LOVE our listeners...99.9% of the time they are fun, friendly and just plain awesome! I say 99.9% because last week...the .1% called the studio line while I was on the air! Her conversation started like this..."I don't think people in North Carolina know anything about horses." Then she went on for 5 minutes complaining about how no one on our station had mentioned the Kentucky Derby...the one thing she looks forward to all year long...people around here not knowing anything about horses and the state not allowing betting. She spilled the beans on her whole life...she's worked in doctor's offices...she's from New York where they lived on the water...she's lived in ENC 18 years...they own a boat and they like to fish but it's certainly not as exciting as the Kentucky Derby...she's 75 years old...she has to listen to "a bunch of a crap" that she doesn't care about. And then she got ugly...personal and ugly....and rude...and nasty...and disgusting! She obviously was oblivious to the fact that when you call The V-Line...you're calling the studio...and talking to us...whoever may be on the air...and she said some nasty things about what I should have done with my child-bearing years and how my child is going to turn out. I thought my head was going to pop off...I wanted to reach through the phone and slap the crap out of her! So now I'm trying to learn how to deal with letting it go...
...which isn't easy...because when I found this sign...my first thought was..."Too many fingers!" And I still can't stop the other thoughts that are running around in my head about her! Lord...help me!!
I've really sucked at this lately!
It's been forever since I've written or posted anything on this blog. I can't imagine why. I've got nothing else to do! You know what I'm talking about, peeps! A job, a family, a life that revolves around your children's interests!
We did hit The Outer Banks for Spring Break. Spent a lot of time at Jockey's Ridge. As a matter of fact...my son and his friends spend 8 hours on those dunes sliding on special "Hard Slick" boogie boards they begged me to buy from Ben Franklin's! They also begged me to buy them a t-shirt from Dirty Dick's. They look kinda like this...
I seriously think one of the Mom's was a little peeved about those t-shirts! Oh well...the humor of a 13 year old boy is amusing to me...and it made them happy!
We've been playing a lot of ball lately, too. Dakota's Parks & Rec team "Piggly Wiggly" took 1st Place in our Pre-Season Tournament.
And he just hit his first home run over the weekend playing with his travel ball team in Beaufort! Whoo Hooo!!
Oh...and I may have mentioned...I got that gallbladder taken out a week ago. Hey...that's my excuse!! Yeah...that's why I haven't written anything on here in ages! Surgery, baby...I went under the KNIFE!
It's Friday...and I'm pumping up the office by playing these videos REALLY LOUD!
By the way...I've read Steven Tyler's autobiography..."Does The Noise In My Head Bother You"...loved it. I picked up Tommy Lee's autobiography "Tommyland" at a book sale recently...just cracked it open. Wild childs they were!
Dust If You Must!
A friend shared a "funny" story with me about his wife's obsession with cleaning. I used to be a "clean freak"...even when my son was young. Then...little by little...I learned that there were more important things to embrace! And...someone shared this with me...
Dust If You Must...
Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better, to paint a picture or write a letter, bake a cake or plant a seed, ponder the difference between want and need? Dust if you must, but there's not much time, with rivers to swim and mountains to climb, music to hear and books to read, friends to cherish and life to lead! Dust if you must, but the world's out there with the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair, a flutter of snow, a shower of rain, this day will not come around again. Dust if you must, but bear in mind, old age will come and it's not kind. And when you go and go you must, you, yourself, will make more dust!
A house becomes a home when you can write "I love you" on the furniture!
WHOO HOO!
My son made the Middle School Baseball Team! He was so nervous during try-outs...he so wanted to make that team! And he did! Now...he's just proud. And I've got new ammunition when it comes to doing well in school! Of course...I can't wait to see him pitch a Middle School Baseball game...even if I have to wait until 8th grade!!
Congratulations!!
Loved Moneyball!
Brad Pitt is terrific in his role as General Manager of the Oakland A's! There's talk of an Oscar nod for Best Actor for Brad and Best Movie for Moneyball. Check it out!
I'm Ready To Do This Again...
I know it's been a mild winter...and my pocketbook appreciates that...haven't had to shell out a ton of money to fill up that gas tank...but I'm ready for another unforgettable ENC Summer!

January 7th and 8th in beautiful Eastern North Carolina...
Launched the boat on the river in Washington and went fishing...
Gotta love that!
Anyone else catch any fish this past weekend?
My family has "resolved" to get fit...
And it's killing me!!
So we went to Next Level last night and hit the machines. I wanted a treadmill...but it's the beginning of a New Year...they were all taken...so I got stuck with one of these torture machines......which about took me out after about 15 minutes. I began thinking about going home and ordering some of these......so I could just lay around in comfort and forget about getting fit!
But...I'm going to stick it out! I can't quit on the 3rd day in January!! Besides...despite this fabulous marketing tease for pajama jeans...Finally, comfort and style in a great looking pair of jeans. Find out why everyone loves Pajama Jeans® that look like real denim with the comfortable feel of pajamas. After work slip into a pair that has all the features of real jeans including a boot cut style, real brass rivets, European styling and realistic high contrast stitching. Forget zippers or button, just jump right in. The ultra comfortable DormiSoft™ fabric perfectly shapes to your contours for that expertly tailored look...the $39.98 price tag will keep me on the machines! I'm way cheaper than I am lazy and I'd never pay almost 40 bucks for jeans that aren't even real!!
I'm reading the new Stephen King book right now...11/22/63
GBot his new book for Christmas. It's tradition. Stephen puts a book out right before Christmas...and I get it for Christmas to add to my collection. I've been hooked on Stephen King since Jr. High. First book of his I read was Salem's Lot. Then The Stand. Scared me...and it was AWESOME! I love it every time Nicholas Sparks comes to visit us in the studio...but one day...I really hope to meet Stephen King. Maybe Nicholas will bring him by. Or maybe I could get a job at Stephen's radio station in Maine. Where all the creepy stuff he writes about in his books happens. It would have to be a day job. I couldn't go out after dark in Maine!
11/22/63 is 842 pages...not counting the Afterword which you have to read because it's always good stuff! I'll let you know what I think when I'm done. Probably 11/22/12...considering how much time I get to read!
I love coupons.com and so will you!
I was just on www.coupons.com checking out the new coupons for the month. If you have a baby...get a coupon for $5 off Enfamil. I remember how expensive that was when my son was a baby! $2 off Pampers Pull Ups! $3 off 10 Weight Watchers Smart Ones...for those of us with that crappy New Years resolution to lose weight! Lots more. Check it out.
ALL MY SON'S FRIENDS ARE GETTING AXE FOR CHRISTMAS!
Every year...my son and I buy his close buddies a little gift for Christmas...just a little somethin'. In the past...it's been Hot Wheels, or a cool T-Shirt or Bakugan. This year...it's Axe. Because of this...
Hey...they're 12 and 13! Cracks me up!
Our Company Christmas Party is tomorrow!
And I have to make pies! I'm making Sweet Potato Pies...because a couple weekends ago...we "gleaned" a sweet potato field and I have 3 buckets of GIGANTIC sweet potatoes in my basement now.
Here's an awesome recipe for Sweet Potato Pie. I follow it pretty close...except I bake my sweet potatoes and I cut the sugar down to 3/4 of a cup. I usually toss in a little extra cinnamon...because I like it!
Ingredients
1 (1 pound) sweet potato
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
Directions
Boil sweet potato whole in skin for 40 to 50 minutes, or until done. Run cold water over the sweet potato, and remove the skin.
Break apart sweet potato in a bowl. Add butter, and mix well with mixer. Stir in sugar, milk, eggs, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. Beat on medium speed until mixture is smooth. Pour filling into an unbaked pie crust.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 55 to 60 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Pie will puff up like a souffle, and then will sink down as it cools.
I'm done with Christmas Shopping...and I'm in love with Walgreen's!
Saturday I cruised by Walgreen's to check out their weekly specials in their flyer. They always have great stuff, especially for Christmas, at a great price with the little coupons you can tear out of their flyer. Perfect Stocking Stuffers and little things for your kids classrooms, etc. Well, they also had some great sale prices on things I needed and that I had coupons for, so I saved a ton on what I needed, got all my stocking stuffers and a couple gifts for the neighbors and the mailman...all for about 30 bucks! And then, they printed out a coupon for me...get $5 when you spend $30 the next time you shop!! Whoo hoo!! Jingle Cash at Walgreen's. My life is so exciting!
Of course, I could tell you how about the cop who nearly scared me off my bike while I was eye spying the old railroad ties trying to figure out if I could fit them in the back of my car. But I won't!
This makes me actually want to play in the snow again!
I saved 40%...my son saved more than 50%!
So...my "almost free" shopping spree didn't pan out to "almost free"...but I did get some great deals during "Double Double Coupon" days at Harris Teeter. Best deal...buy 2 boxes of Chex Cereal...get 1 box free...they were on sale for 2 for 5 bucks. So...that's three for 5 bucks...then they doubled my $1.10 coupon to $2.20. I paid $3.80 for three boxes of Chex Cereal. That's a lot of Muddy Buddies for the holidays! I ended up saving 40% on what I needed. Then...my son got the bug and got his own coupons...talked me into taking him to Harris Teeter...got 42 dollars worth of "stuff"...including more Chex Cereal...and paid just $19.90. Or...I should say...I paid $19.90!!
Went to Wake Forest for baseball this past weekend. On the way home...we're driving slowly through a quiet little town...no traffic...no one out...and BAM...I look over and see two people sitting at a picnic table outside a restaurant...locked up tight...all bundled up...crazy winter hats on and all...and they're playing on their laptops! Just out for a nice evening of free wireless internet! Don't know why it struck me as so funny...but I laughed for about 10 minutes. Maybe it was the crazy hats!
Hey...just in case you've never heard of Muddy Buddies...here's the recipe. Delicious! And addictive!
Throw 9 cups of any Chex cereal you choose in a bowl. In a 1 quart microwavable bowl...microwave 1 cup chocolate chips, 1/2 cup of peanut butter and 1/4 cup butter or margarine on high for 1 minute. Stir. Microwave about 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag. Add 1 and 1/2 cups powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator...if it lasts that long!
What's up with "Lady"?
My son has taken to calling me "Lady". "Hey, Lady. Can you pick me up some gel?" "Lady...come on let's go!" It's driving me crazy! So now...when he calls me "Lady"...I call him "Brat". Is that just mean?!!
Coming soon...my attempt at a small "almost free" shopping spree. I know I can't do it like those crazy people on "Extreme Couponing"...becauseI've done my research and have learned that stores have some pretty restricting coupon rules. But...I'm going to attempt a trip a little bigger than my last tiny trip...just to see. My tiny trip...last week I went to Harris Teeter and got two carafes of Gold Peak tea and two packages of Gogurts...on sale for $8...I paid $3.50 after they doubled my coupons. Check out coupons.com for some cool savings on favorites. Those coupons worked at Harris Teeter!
Watch the boat very carefully...
OMG! Nicholas Sparks was here today!
I had to get up early...but it's always worth it to talk to Nicholas Sparks! Tuesday, October 11th. Nicholas's new book "The Best Of Me" is in bookstores today. He was in our studio at 6:50am. He's so sweet! Today someone asked if they made a movie of his life, who would he want to play him in the movie. His answer, Matt Damon. I think Mark Wahlberg or George Clooney would be better.
I love Nicholas. But I still want him to bring Stephen King with him the next time!
Another weekend of baseball!
It's Monday! October 10th...
We spent another weekend on baseball fields! Riptide vs. Marlins. They got the first game...we got the second. It was a very peaceful ride home and I found "cheap" gas in Vanceboro! How exciting is that? Wow! What a life! Excited over "cheap" gas!
Yes! It's Friday!
October 7th...
I almost hit a chicken on the way to work today. Would that have been bad luck?
Oh...look...more baseball!
Just took these off my camera! Last month...Carolina Elite Rays won their first tournament of the fall season! Every tournament since has been rained out! And yes...I just took them off my camera!
This Has Been Interesting!
I am certainly no expert at putting together a new website. Frankly, whenever our webmaster would talk to us about how to do what we'd need to do on the website, I was pretty certain he was speaking in some foreign language. One that wasn't used on this earth anymore. But, I'm fumbling through it, and hopefully it won't be as painful as learning how to program my VCR. Something I actually never really learned!
So, allow me to try a few tricks he taught us!
Here's my life in pictures!
I spend a lot of time on baseball fields watching my son play. Travel ball and Parks and Rec ball. He loves baseball!
I love watching my son play ball. And the coaches!
Nice! All Stars coach for Parks and Rec a couple years ago.
We love to play on the water.
We love fun places.
I take a pottery class. I'm terrible. But I like to make weird creations or stick things on my lopsided bowls! It's like therapy...only cheaper!
Best vacation ever? Florida Keys for Lobster Week. With our besties...Terri and Ricky! I wish I was there now.
We've got two pets. Jenny the dog. We rescued her from the shelter. She's awesome. And Liz Kid the lizard. My son begged and promised that he would take care of the lizard. If you're a parent, you know how that's workin' out!
