First Friday ArtWalk 2014
Greenville’s choice monthly arts event, the First Friday ArtWalk, kicked off its 8th season on January 3.
Sponsored by Wells Fargo, Arts Connection, City of Greenville and the Daily Reflector, the First Friday ArtWalk is a time when galleries Uptown throw open their doors to showcase new exhibits, often coinciding with free opening receptions.
But it’s not just art: Many of Uptown’s eclectic mix of restaurateurs and shops show their support for the arts by offering specials to the art-walkers. Hop a free ride on the Jolly Trolley, Greenville’s old-fashioned streetcar, to get to your next ArtWalk destination, or just to see the sights Uptown.
“We are so excited to incorporate a greater variety of arts for people to enjoy this year,” said Uptown Greenville director Bianca Shoneman. “We’ll have foods, visual arts, live music, dance and movement–our goal is to offer art experiences that send people home satisfied, engaged and looking forward to the next month”
Look for the First Friday ArtWalk window decals to easily identify the 19 participating venues, and be sure to pick up a detailed map/guide where you see the sticker or at the Uptown Greenville office.
Mark your calendars now, from 5-8 p.m., for great (and inexpensive!) nights filled with art, friends, music, food and drinks. The 2014 First Friday ArtWalk dates are as follows:
- February 7*
- March 7*
- April 4
- May 2
- June 6
- September 5
- October 3
- November 7
- December 5
In March, the theme will be painting en plein air. Artists are welcome to bring their easels to do their own outdoors painting.
Come find yourself in good company while you experience art and culture at its finest on First Fridays this year!
Please note: due to repairs and upgrades, Greenville Jolly Trolley will not operate during the February and March First Friday ArtWalks.
